Be Well Be Here is a non-profit collaborative mindful wellness center established by Lara Wilson after she successfully completed stage III breast cancer treatment with the help of an optimistic outlook, top-notch doctors at Dana Farber, a team of holistic practitioners, a community of over 100 caring friends, a deep connection with nature, and a dedicated 30-year meditation practice. During treatment, Lara studied mindfulness with Ellen Langer and associates at Harvard, where she learned from data-driven research how a powerful mind/body connection along with integrative therapies can promote improved health. Crediting her decades of mindfulness practice for her own positive health outcome, Lara began incorporating mindful healing modalities in her teaching, tutoring, and writing. Lara's unique story prompted both integrative and western medicine doctors to write about her case, and her focus on mindfulness as a way of life and a path to wellness was featured in the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine.
With a master's degree in English & American Literature, Lara recently completed a master's program in mindfulness studies to deepen her understanding of contemplative practices. In addition to working with CEOs, cancer patients, celebrated authors, students with learning issues, and young athletes, Lara has developed mindfulness curricula and taught in both public and private high schools in the northeast and southern US. She has earned certification in restorative/yoga nidra (RYT-200) and Reiki Level II, and studied qi gong with various instructors, such as Master Yang Yang, a clinical specialist at Memorial Sloane-Kettering Cancer Center in NYC. Lara continues to study the work of mindfulness teachers such as Thich Nhat Hanh, Sharon Salzberg, Jospeh Goldstein, Jack Kornfield, Christina Feldman, Tara Brach, Jon Kabat-Zinn, Gregory Kramer, Andrew Olendski, and Pema Chodron, among others. These experiences enable Lara to compassionately meet clients of all backgrounds where they are, and collaboratively create new modes of expression and self-care that enhance wellness of mind, body and spirit.
“Lara is an exceptionally gifted healer. She has helped my twelve-year-old son tremendously. Lara uses mindfulness and many other strategies to work with my son, who had severe neurological complications as a result of surgery. He adores her and looks forward to her visits. I can't imagine that he would have been able to get through this without her.
- Cambridge, MA mother and Harvard-trained psychotherapist
Lara is more than fabulous - a great healer! I was most impressed with her meditation class, and I have done a lot of this work. First of all she was very soft, yet direct. You could feel her sense of presence when she shared her own story and explained her daily practice. She mixed things up and I was so happy to have her share some Qi gong! Her breathing and visualization exercises were well-paced and again very gentle. I could feel some of the effects the next day, which tells me she is right on.
- S.G., mindfulness practitioner and teacher
“Lara heard me, and what she taught me saved me.”
- D.B., high school senior
“How lucky to be and learn in this beautiful, calm space.”
