Living in a grab-and-go, meal-skippping, hork-with-a-fork culture, how might we shift toward eating habits that allow more ease? This session invites you to experiment with mindful ways to nourish yourself. Considering the principles of Intuitive Eating and interoceptive or sensory awareness, we’ll tap into the Language of the Self to better understand our habits. Discover essential aspects of the mind/body connection that honor natural ways to nourish your entire Being. Led by Lara Wilson, GCMS, Be Well Be Here founder and executive director.

$22 per session. Scholarship and subsidies are available.

Armed with the ability to recognize diet culture and its covert operation in your daily life, you’re ready to learn how to cultivate true health and wellness. Together, we'll examine principles of Intuitive Eating and the importance of interoceptive awareness, our body's natural way to communicate through the senses. Discover what you can do to feel sane, healthy and at peace with your body. It’s not as obvious as you might think - some research-backed methods may surprise you! Led by Monika Ostroff, LICSW

Monika Ostroff, LICSW, CEDS-S is the Executive Director of the Multi-Service Eating Disorders Association, Inc (MEDA) located in Newton, MA. Monika is a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist and Supervisor, nationally recognized for her 25+ years of experience and contributions to the field of eating disorders. She has opened and directed several successful residential, partial hospital and intensive outpatient eating disorder programs in New Hampshire in addition to having owned a thriving private practice. Monika is the co-author of Anorexia Nervosa: A Guide to Recovery and a contributing author to Self-Harm Behavior and Eating Disorders. She has presented at many national conferences, taught at the university level, and appeared on several radio and television broadcasts. Monika’s passion for treating eating disorders and mentoring other professionals was borne out of her own struggle and full recovery from a lengthy and severe eating disorder. She strongly believes in providing compassionate care that combines alternative healing with evidence-based modalities. In addition to using meditation, yoga, and essential oils, she is certified in several alternative modalities.

The diet industry is a $72.2 billion dollar per year industry that expertly targets and amplifies our insecurities in order to sell their programs and products. Inundated by photoshopped illusions of seemingly perfect bodies coupled with secret elixirs that promise perfect health and longevity, we can become victims of a false narrative that leaves us perpetually dissatisfied and stressed out. Join Monika Ostroff, MEDA Executive Director to debunk diet myths and open to nourishing possibilities.

Session 1 – Reclaim Your Inner Wisdom Tuesday, September 21 at 7:30 pm

What exactly is diet culture and how pervasive is it? Explore ways to know when you’ve been duped by the marketing genius of diet culture and are practicing eating habits that compromise rather than enhance your health. Begin to recognize when you might be in a dietary red zone by asking yourself 6 essential questions and discover facets of social conditioning that disprove old tropes such as "you are what you eat." Learn how to cultivate self-compassion by becoming a savvy consumer who can choose a new path to reclaim the body's innate wisdom.
